Instead, they are written by organised crime to extort money from the vulnerable. Ransomware encrypts files on an infected computer & can only be unlocked by paying the ransom.

2. Make regular backups & archives, & keep copies that are disconnected from the network. Then you will have an uninfected copy that you can use to rebuild your files.
